If you’re not sure how you want to decorate your nursery, start by choosing the baby bedding set. The nursery is all planned out. You’ve chosen the crib, the rug, the stuffed animals, even the light-switch covers… but have you forgotten something? When planning the nursery, you need to carefully choose your crib bedding set. Here are some of the main things to consider:

- Choose natural, soft fibers like 100% cotton.

- Babies have a lot of “accidents”, so buy bedding that is machine washable (another great reason to choose cotton).

- Suffocation is a serious concern for young babies, so the first thing to do is make sure the crib sheet fits properly. If your sheets don’t fit as well as you’d like, but a set of elastic straps that go under the mattress and make the crib sheet fit more tightly.

- Before buying a bedding set, decide if you really need one. You should realize that items commonly included in a bedding set (like bumper pads and comforters) are not recommended for very young babies. Purchasing separates can be smarter and cheaper than buying a bedding set. You might be worried that your bedding won’t match, but look at it as an opportunity to get more creative instead.

- And finally, after taking everything else into consideration, consider the theme of the room and coordinate with the furniture and other accessories you already have.

Plan for the long term when buying your bedding. It’s possible to use the same crib bedding for quite a few years by buying a convertible crib or a toddler bed (make sure it uses standard-sized crib sheets). If you think your family will continue to grow, it’s a very smart decision to buy a gender neutral crib set like the Vintage baby bedding, because you can reuse it (and the whole nursery decor) no matter what the gender of your next child. If you are sure there will be no more kids, however, then buying high-quality (and expensive!) baby bedding is not so important. In any case, keep extra sets of sheets on hand, in case of emergency!
