Baby Crib Bedding Sets and Infant Safeguards

It only makes sense that when you shop for your baby’s crib, you’ll be looking for , too. The majority of crib sets consist of several items, but some of them may actually be harmful to your baby. To be honest, the only thing you really need is a couple of crib sheets, because modern crib safety standards recommend keeping free of all soft bedding. Crib sets are cute, but since most of the pieces are unnecessary, it’s much better to spend your money on some durable, comfortable crib sheets instead.

Neither bumper pads nor comforters are recommended for newborns, as they both increase the risk of suffocation. Winter brings worries about the cold, but wearable blankets or sleep sacks are a better choice than a loose quilt. Baby sacks are like sleeping bags for , except that they are worn like a vest, with head and arm holes. If you interested in a swaddling blanket, you might want to investigate some of the more modern styles that aid in getting the right fit. Swaddling is supposed to mimic the close quarters of the uterus, and it comforts many newborns. A comforter can still be a good idea to keep on hand for wrapping your baby while you’re holding them. Just remember that you have to put your baby into the crib without the quilt.

You might be considering a sleep wedge for your baby. After all, it’s supposed to reduce the risk of SIDS, something most new parents worry about. But young babies are not able to roll over, so if you put them to bed on their backs, they’ll stay on their backs. And by the time they are able to roll onto their tummies, SIDS is no longer such a serious concern. You should also realize that these foam wedges are themselves soft bedding, which is not recommended by most pediatricians for very young babies.

Bedding sets are more than just quilts and bumper pads, though. They often include things like wall hangings, window valances, and even a mobile. Keep in mind what you and your baby actually need, though. These will probably not make the list.

It is understandable, however, that you might want a bedding set to complete the look of your baby’s room. If so, just get gender neutral baby bedding like a Hot Cocoa baby bedding set. It’s much more cost effective because you can use it again and again, regardless of the sex of your next baby.
