Before You Decide on Infant Bedding: Preparing Your Baby's Room
The crib will be the focal point of your nursery, but it is the bedding you choose that will really make it stand out. If you’re looking for a special kind of crib, try shopping online.
Not everyone will agree on which bedding set is the best. Also keep your budget in mind while you’re shopping. Bedding sets can get very expensive, so try not to fall in love with crib bedding you can’t afford. To make things easier on yourself, decide on the style of bedding you want and how much you’re willing to pay, before you ever start shopping.
Think about how large a family you’re planning to have. Will you be having more? If yes, then take that into consideration. If you know you’re having a baby girl, you probably have your heart set on a crib set for girls, lacey and frilly, or at least pink and feminine, like a Pixie Stix bedding set. Sounds great – but what if your next baby is a boy? Try explaining to people why he has a pink and frilly bedding set. Before you dump a lot of money into a crib set, you will want to reuse it, so pick a neutral theme – and don’t worry, there are some really cute ones out there.
When you’ve set a budget, keep it and resist the temptation to buy a more expensive bedding set. Everyone want the nursery to look cute, but remember that it’s not your room. It belongs to your baby and babies just want a warm, comfortable place to sleep.
Because of the limitations of size and geography, “real world” stores can’t specialize the way an online store can – which means they also can’t offer the selection of an ecommerce site.
For example, while a web store may have 20, 30 or even more brands to choose from, most offline stores carry only a couple of brands. Some only have one. If you’re considering shopping offline because of lower prices, then do some comparison shopping – you’ll almost certainly find a better deal online.
Buying bedding online does comes with some drawbacks, though. The most obvious one is that you can’t pick up or feel anything. So if you want to know exactly how soft a bedding set is, you have no other choice but to buy it. Pictures are great, but even the highest quality product photos don’t compare to a real-life examination.
To reduce frustration and wasted time, plan a budget and a general theme before you start looking online. Otherwise the range of options can bog you down.
