One of the most unique and interesting trends in article marketing today is the use of magic bullet articles. The phrase “magic bullet article” is used to describe content that is created to tie-in to a recent news event or celebrity that is currently generating massive attention on the Internet.  In other words, these articles are created for the sole purpose of attracting some of the traffic from the “buzz” surrounding a recent event or news phenomenon.

After the death of Michael Jackson, for example, article marketers across the web capitalized on the massive traffic on the search engines by posting and promoting keyword articles about the King of Pop.  The same spike in magic-bullets occurred after the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Virginia Tech massacre, and even the births of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s biological children. Other magic bullet-type topics include celebrity deaths, , and scandals, natural disasters, or criminal cases that attract nationwide attention (such as the Casey Anthony or “Foxy Knoxy” cases).

Writing magic bullet articles is a great way to attract massive traffic in a short time. While this is not a strategy that can be counted on for long-term, steady streams of visitors, website owners can give their sites a burst by writing these articles.  The best way to detect what news stories might serve as fodder for a magic bullet article on any given day is to watch what’s “buzzing” on Yahoo! or to browse Google Insights, which lists the top topics being searched for that day.
